2020

This was an unprecedented year. Looking back, there were some excellent moments and a plethora of bad moments. But now that this year is coming to an end, let's remember some of the year's most significant moments.

January

We Start January with tensions between the United States and Iran, rumors of WW3 start circling social media. A US drone strike killed off Army General Qasem Soleimani, on January 3, with Iran making a promise to "make America pay"an honorable mention to all the TikTokers that blessed my feed with WW3 memes and dances. Thank you for that.

We said goodbye to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they quit the royal family.

On a mini happy note, we celebrated my 16th birthday, honestly a significant milestone in my life. I thought I would sneak that in there before the world goes wrong.

We learn about climate change effects; there were record-breaking wildfires in Australia, South America, California, and Oregon, taking homes, schools, and lives. The temperatures rose, causing the ice caps to melt, and the most storms ever in one year hit the U.S. For some of us, it was one hell of a wake-up call to start paying attention to the fact that this is the only home we have, and we have to start taking better care of it.

Sadly we lost someone that had an impact on everyone. On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven others lost their lives in a horrible plane crash. R.I.P. to someone that made basketball more than a sport.

February

The new virus was given a name: Covid-19. The death toll had reached 1,000. Major factories closed, some airlines suspended service, and the stock markets started facing a reckoning.

We can't forget about Trumps' impeachment charges that were dropped. He immediately fired all White House staff who testified against him. He also fired the acting Director of National Intelligence after a briefing to the House Intelligence Committee revealed that Russia is actively meddling in the U.S. election to re-elect Trump. The Director was then replaced by an Ambassador loyal to the President.

Lastly, Locust Swarms, the worst to have been seen in decades, were devastating crops in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Seven million people in Yemen faced starvation because Houthi rebels blocked access to food and humanitarian aid.

March

You know what they say "three's a charm." The entire world went into hysteria because of "some guy in China at a bat." really? As economies crashed, thousands lost their lives; this month was the climax of what was about to come. March 13 was a happy day for most high schoolers (sorry to the seniors) because of a two-week break. A global pandemic has begun. Thank you for canceling my mock exams, but a global pandemic?

April

Even though we were all on lockdown, some spring breakers wanted to get that spring tan at the beach and spread the disease. Cases of Corona started spreading nationwide and hit a million worldwide, yet some were still arguing that this is a real disease… wow.

I attempted to learn how to cook, that didn't go so well; some people finally started school again online. Zoom university was a fantastic addition at the beginning.

May

We are only in May, and this has just been a rollercoaster. But this month, at that moment, we grabbed out posters and protested for Black lives. Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and so many more unfairly lost their lives to cops who never thought before shooting. The whole of the world lit up in anger, with many taking the streets all over to protest against black citizens' treatment.

Skai Jackson took to Twitter "exposing racists" this is where kids would expose people who have said the N-word, blackfish, or did anything that was considered racist and ruined their lives. They called colleges, jobs, and even high schools; Skai Jackson made others think twice before being racist, especially on the internet.

While this was going on, the governments thought, "Hey, I know Covid is getting worse, but we need to open the country again!" One hundred thousand people in the United States had died, and with no signs of the pandemic slowing down, governments had a choice: money or safety? come on, do I have to tell you which one they picked. Oh! I almost forgot to mention that Kim Jong-Un died… but he didn't really. Long story.

June

My exams were canceled!! A.P. online, IGCSE never heard of her. But in this terrifying '20s, protests continued with anger continuing across the world, and I mean the world: United Kingdom, South Korea, Germany all had thousands of people take the street to fight racial inequality. Then some took justice into their own hands: Statues of slave traders and confederate figures were thrown to the ground and dumped into the waters.

Let us remember this month as the time TikTok made Trump want to kill Gen Z. With the election months away, Trump started his rally in Tusla, only to have it hijacked by many TikTok Gen Z-ers. Along with Anonymous joining us, the younger generation booked seats to Trump's rally and didn't turn up. So many empty slots. Generation z proved they were a potent threat.

How did we come up with the most annoying names to be Karen & Ken? This June, they were finally being called out for their s***.

After continuously not wearing masks, social distancing, and idiotic remarks, Generation Z again took social media to spread who was being a Karen. The mini C.I.A.'s were able to put on their hats and find them. They were canceled that day. You think you can calm down Karen for 2021. Since some were so desperate to get back to their lives of school, bars, and clubs, the health experts warned the world that a second wave is nearing.

Biden comes into the election to take on Trump!

July

Honestly, the tamest. For those in Chicago, Navy Pier did not do their annual fireworks display, which was missed.

Russia was up to no good again… putting bounties on U.S. troops and also turns out they were paying extremist group to kill British troops. Those were rumors, right?

I kind of wish I was one of the guys getting sent up to space to get away from all of this, but no, Elon Musk and NASA said no.

Oh, and Kanye wants to run for President?

August

A massive explosion at a Beirut port, sparked August 4 by the accidental detonation of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, killed at least 190 people and injured thousands of others.

Biden announced August 11 that he selected the California senator Kamala Harris as his running mate, making her the first black woman and the first Asian woman Vice President. Queen

We say goodby to the legend Chadwick Boseman who died at age 43 after battling for four years with colon cancer. Wakanda Forever

School begins...

September

We say goodbye to Ruth Bader Ginsburg: The Supreme Court Justice and unrelenting trailblazer for general equality. She was the second woman ever to be appointed to the high court. Icon

Covid-19 has killed 1 million people worldwide. With more than 7 million cases and 200,000 dead, the U.S. has the most cases and deaths from coronavirus.

October

The big guy didn't want to believe in Covid, so he and his First Lady were given a gift this October: President Trump announced October 2 that he and Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus. He was hospitalized for three days and was discharged to continue his recovery at the white-house. Great political move, Trump

Covid cases continue to break numerous records.

November

The world's eyes were fixated on the U.S. 2020 presidential election. The fly. This presidential election summed up was simultaneously entertaining and maddening. However, with a silver lining, Joe Biden became the 46th president of the United States on November 7, defeating President Trump with an assist from Pennsylvania, which delivered the votes to propel him to victory and finally end one of the most contentious elections.

December

Colleges admission: congratulations to everyone who got into their colleges, and better things await those who didn't.

A vaccine has been distributed.

Arctic drilling raises many angered citizens. Trump's final push for Arctic oil drilling might not have many takers in the end.

After all that we have been through this 2020, I would like to thank Outer Banks, Cloud bread, Zoom, and FaceTime to get me through and keep me connected to my friends and family that I sadly could not see.

Happy New Year, everyone!!

2020 you were one for the History books.
